The Story

On January 14, I departed Narita Airport on American Airlines Flight # 60. This flight uses the beautiful new Boeing 777 Jet Airplane with only two engines. But look at them! They are MIGHTY! A person can easily stand up in the air intake as shown in the first photo where you can see the pilot inspecting the front wheels. I made all of these photos with an Olympus c-2000z digital camera on intermediate resolution. This is a fabulous camera, believe me!  There are  newer models now, such as the 2020 and 300, 3030, etc., but the old original is still just as good! Why did these air photos turn out so well? I found the ideal optical port from which to make these photos! It it not from the passenger seat windows but from the small rectangular window in the door just in front of the wings! This window has only ONE pane of optical material. No layers. It was very clear and clean. That is why I was able to take such good photos. My appreciation to the flight attendants of American Airlines for allowing me to take these photos. I have taken flight 60 a number of times. It is really long going from Dallas to Tokyo (14 hours, non-stop!) but returning is around 10 hours. The altitude from which these photos was made was around 39,000 feet. On some photos, I used my optical 3X telephoto. In several photos, you can see Lake Meed and even individual boats moored in the lake! How is that for some resolution at 7+ miles above the earth! One of the most beautiful photos that you will see is # 526a. Just look at the colors of this escarpment! It reminds me of the recent photos of the surface of Mars where one can see sedimentary formations. These are LARGE image files, mostly more than 800K but they are worth downloading. I did not want to compromise the quality. Hopefully you have a fast ethernet connection. Do explore  # 526a first. If you like that image, then try 523 and 516a. If you like those, then download all of the images. Enjoy!
