The Story

The little village of Waxholm is on an island. It is next to the old fort (see the photo above) which protects the passageway from the mouth of the Balkins to the inner harbor of Stockholm. The Swedes love Waxholm! It is a tourist's delight! If you travel to Sweden, please do not miss Waxholm! The photos below show the beautiful architecture of the homes and buildings in the village. In addition a short visit to Lena Linderholm's gallery, one of my favorites. For a detailed visit,  click HERE.
Another really interesting part of history is close by! It is the old yttrium mine. This is the place where the following rare earth elements were first found: yttrium, ytterbium, terbium, erbium, holmium, scandium, and tantalium. Yttrium, the essential component of the YAG crystal, the electron dector system of my Philips 420 transmission electron microsope (check out what we can do with this unique instrument, click HERE).
