This is a spectacular view of what we believe to be a bundle of nanotubes being synthesized. Since nickel and cobalt are used as the catalysts, they may contribute to the specific aggregation of the carbon into the graphene sheet but through a linear acetylenic carbon chain. The linear structure in the lower right hand corner is believed to be such a chain. The extra electron density at the tips of these nanotubes is consistent with the higher "Z" number or scattering power of cobalt or nickel. Click here if you want to see our diagram of how we believe this is assembled.
