No kidding, I have collected Acetobacter in Hawaii. Here is a photo of my wife where we are out on a
collecting trip. We use sterile Q-tips which we dip into the rotten fruit and streak a 100 mm agar plate containing
Schramm and Hestrin Medium along with some acetic acid. This medium helps to select for Acetobacter strains.
Do remember that yeasts will also grow in the medium but after a few days, if rough colonies are selected and
transferred to the Schramm and Hestrin Medium, a nice "pellicle" of cellulose and entrapped cells will appear
at the gas-liquid interface of the culture medium (slide after next).
