1996 Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) Convention


Two major areas of research in the Brown lab are CELLULOSE BIOGENESIS and HIGH RESOLUTION TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY. These will be covered briefly in the slides to follow. The slide above shows the structural formula for cellulose which consists only of glucose monomers, and the images below are of an enzyme complex, a dodecamer of ornithine decarboxylase. The left image is an x-ray model from Dr. Marvin Hackert's lab on the UT campus, and the right image is a high resolution TEM image made by Judith Sharp.
