This is a panoramic view from the top of the Masada looking east toward the Dead Sea. Note the ruins of the Roman garrison (diamond structure on the right) which was built to accomodate the troops and others involved in building the ramp to capture the Jewish defenders. A stone wall some 15 feet high was built at the base of the mountain (shown by discontinuous lines due to the optical illusion in trying to tie three shots into one panorama).
