Hiking on the Famous Aspen Mountain
+ 11,000 feet above sea level!
The Story
You take the
Gondola rising more than 3000 feet above Aspen, arriving after almost 2.5
miles on this magnificent suspended cable system. The Gondola travels about
9.2 mph (as my GPS has shown!). Up here in the "stratosphere" one gets
out of breath when hiking, but oh what hiking! We usually hike over
to a place which is just above timberline, then we have our noontime picnic
lunch. What beauty and the vastness of this place will just overwhelm the
visitor, for sure! Nature's flower pot is found in one of the phots. See
if you can locate this photo and let me know! Take a look at the photos
on top of this scene. Also, the magnificent pan photos I made. These are
large but I want you to see the potential of the camera system coupled
with Quickstitch (unfortunately no longer available). This mountain top
is a paradise! By the way, there is a new and very nice restaurant on top.
Folks are always so friendly here. You have to put on loads of suntan lotion
since at this altitude, the UV is intense. The views are simply stupendous.
The hang gliders add to the excitement. Can you imagine that on Saturdays,
the Aspen Music Festival holds a "Music on the Mountain" concert. Usually
brass players. They must easily get out of breath!! hope you will enjoy
these photos. I think Inder Saxena for sharing many of his photos with
us. These photos represent three different trips on Aspen Mountain in the
summer of 2002. Remember, all photos are copyrighted. Contact me at rmbrown@mail.utexas.edu
